To control the latest generation of wavelength-tunable lasers, novel approaches are needed. Conventional systems using open-loop lookup tables which are measured and meticulously mapped in the laser diode factory are no longer sufficient. Executive Engineering has worked extensively on the design and implementation of modern control algorithms and drive&control electronics for complex photonic integrated circuits.
During this project, the Executive Engineering team was able to fit a efficient and modern auto-calibration and auto-compensation loop into a small FPGA. The electronics and pricepoint targets were met, allowing SFP and XFP manufacturers to include modern-day control algorithms into their small form factor transponder modules for fiber-optic communications.
